Community Engineer (SWE3), Brilliant Black Minds (United States)

About this role

Karat seeks a Community Engineer to lead technical development for Brilliant Black Minds, a 11,000+ member community supporting diverse software engineers. This hybrid role blends hands-on engineering (70%) with community program management (30%), focusing on building AI-powered tools, automations, and interview preparation resources as the sole engineer on the program.

What you'll do

• Design and ship end-to-end projects from concept through production release, managing ambiguity independently
• Build scalable services, APIs, and components with high code quality and reliability standards
• Integrate LLM APIs and AI capabilities into interview preparation offerings
• Create automations and tooling for community operations including newsletters, Discord integrations, and member resources
• Engage directly with community: moderate Discord, facilitate study groups, and understand member needs
• Identify gaps and rapidly prototype solutions using AI-assisted development workflows

• 5+ years building production web applications or distributed systems
• Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Ruby
