Job Title: Engineering Manager

Location: Duncan, SC

Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to serve as the technical lead for our modular fabrication business, overseeing the engineering design effort that turns preliminary client designs into final designs ready for manufacturing. This role manages a multi-discipline team of consulting engineers — mechanical, electrical, pipe stress analysis, structural, and instrumentation and controls — supporting pipe fabrication, modular assembly, and structural steel projects for the data center and life sciences/pharmaceutical markets.

The Engineering Manager is the primary technical resource for Project Managers and works directly with client engineers to resolve design questions, drive design completion, and ensure deliverables support a fast-paced fabrication schedule. This role requires fluency across multiple engineering CAD and modeling platforms and the judgment to manage technical risk across disciplines and consultants.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the organization's technical lead, providing engineering direction and final technical sign-off across all active modular fabrication projects.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for Project Managers, resolving design questions and escalations in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
  • Set engineering standards, design review protocols, and quality expectations across all disciplines.
  • Make or guide key technical decisions on design approach, constructability, and fabrication feasibility.

Multi-Discipline Engineering Management

  • Manage and coordinate consulting engineers across mechanical, electrical, pipe stress analysis, structural, and instrumentation and controls disciplines.
  • Allocate engineering resources and consultant assignments across concurrent projects to meet design and fabrication schedules.
  • Review and approve multi-discipline deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Evaluate, onboard, and manage performance of outside engineering consultants and firms.

Design Development & Client Coordination

  • Lead the engineering design effort from preliminary design through final design for manufacturing, ensuring designs are fabrication-ready.
  • Work directly with client engineers to clarify design intent, resolve technical questions, and manage design change through the development process.
  • Drive design completion against aggressive project schedules without compromising code compliance or quality.
  • Support design reviews, constructability reviews, and technical clarifications during the proposal and early project phases.

Engineering Tools & Standards

  • Maintain working proficiency across multiple engineering CAD and modeling platforms used by in-house and consulting engineers.
  • Drive standardization of design tools, templates, and modeling practices to improve consistency and throughput across projects.
  • Support pipe stress analysis and code compliance efforts (e.g., ASME B31.1/B31.3/B31.9) across project scopes.
  • Champion continuous improvement in engineering processes to support faster, more reliable design-to-fabrication handoff.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with fabrication and project management to ensure designs translate efficiently into shop execution.
  • Coordinate with quality on weld procedures, material specifications, and code compliance requirements.
  • Support estimating with technical input on scope, design complexity, and engineering hours for proposals.

Qualifications & Skills

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Process, Structural, or related Engineering discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Process engineering or mechanical engineering background a plus.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including multi-discipline project or team leadership, ideally within modular fabrication, industrial piping, or capital project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple engineering CAD and modeling platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, Caesar II, or similar).
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable codes across disciplines, including ASME piping codes, AISC structural standards, and NEC/instrumentation standards.
  • Experience managing outside engineering consultants and multi-discipline design coordination.
  • Experience supporting data center or life sciences/pharmaceutical projects a strong plus.

Professional Attributes

  • Technically credible leader who can direct engineers across multiple disciplines and earn trust with client engineering counterparts.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment without sacrificing technical rigor.
  • Strong problem solver who can resolve design conflicts and keep projects moving toward fabrication.
  • Clear communicator able to translate technical issues for project managers, clients, and shop personnel.
  • Collaborative and hands-on, willing to dig into design details alongside the team.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
