About this role

Muon Space seeks a Thermal Engineer II to lead thermal design and analysis of spacecraft assemblies and subsystems, from initial calculations and modeling through TVAC testing. You'll work independently while collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and systems teams in a hybrid San Jose role.

What you'll do

  • Build and execute thermal models using Thermal Desktop or equivalent tools for margin analysis, conduction/radiation calculations, and transient studies
  • Own complete thermal analysis packages for assigned assemblies or subsystems
  • Size radiators and heaters; establish component thermal limits and margins
  • Support thermal verification testing and TVAC campaigns, including data analysis
  • Coordinate thermal interfaces and requirements across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams
  • Mentor interns and junior engineers through model reviews and technical guidance

  • Conduction and radiation fundamentals with hand calculation capability
  • Spacecraft or aerospace thermal engineering design
  • TVAC and thermal testing experience
  • Python or Matlab scripting
  • Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Cross-functional team coordination
  • Technical mentoring and leadership
