AV Hardware Mechanical Engineer
About this role
Nuro seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to design and deliver autonomous hardware solutions for Level 4 self-driving vehicles. You'll own the full lifecycle from concept through production, collaborating across teams to integrate sensors and electronics into customer platforms while ensuring reliability and manufacturability.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and release autonomous hardware components enabling Nuro's Driver system across platforms
- Lead specification and integration with vehicle partners to meet performance and customer requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally on sensing and electronics architecture for mass-deployed autonomous vehicles
- Benchmark electronics technologies and conduct make-vs-buy analysis
- Identify suppliers and manage components through validation to production readiness
- Drive quality improvements, cost reductions, and manufacturing efficiency

- Mechanical design and CAD (UG NX preferred)
- Electro-mechanical hardware design, build, and test
- Manufacturing processes (rapid prototyping, sheet metal, injection molding, machining, casting)
- Material selection and analysis (FEA and hand calculations)
- Design for manufacturability and supplier collaboration
- Reliability testing and validation planning
- Thermal and structural analysis
- Production lifecycle management
