Embedded Software Engineer
About this role
Observable Space seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to develop and debug embedded Linux systems and firmware for space technology platforms serving NASA, SpaceX, and the U.S. Space Force. You'll work hands-on with hardware bring-up, driver development across multiple interfaces, and real-world debugging in a fast-paced prototyping environment.
What you'll do
- Develop, test, and debug embedded Linux systems, low-level firmware, drivers, and bootloaders under senior engineer guidance
- Design and maintain drivers for PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART, MIPI CSI-2, and GPIO interfaces
- Bring up peripherals (cameras, sensors, communication links) through firmware integration, prototyping, soldering, and initial power-on verification
- Set up and execute component test characterization campaigns and analyze results
- Support longevity testing campaigns and data analysis to identify issues early
- Participate in design reviews and code reviews to build product and reliability expertise
