About this role

Observable Space seeks a Mechanical Engineer specializing in structural analysis to design and validate optomechanical systems for space platforms. You'll conduct FEA and testing on precision components while remaining hands-on with fabrication, assembly, and field deployment across programs serving NASA, SpaceX, and the U.S. Space Force.

What you'll do

  • Perform FEA for stress, thermal, vibration, and environmental loading on mechanical and optomechanical subsystems
  • Design and lead structural test campaigns to verify analysis and validate design assumptions
  • Develop detailed finite element models from CAD and provide design optimization feedback
  • Conduct structural-thermal-optical performance (STOP) analyses and system-level verification
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, alignment, testing, and field installation activities
  • Investigate hardware issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective design changes
