About this role

OpenAI seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead production deployments of AI models within financial services organizations, working across investment banking, trading, risk, and compliance. You'll translate complex financial workflows and regulatory requirements into reliable, auditable systems while shaping OpenAI's financial services strategy through repeatable deployment patterns.

What you'll do

  • Design and ship production AI systems with ownership of integrations, data flows, reliability, observability, and on-call readiness
  • Lead end-to-end discovery and scoping from pre-sales through production, defining measurable outcomes and delivery plans
  • Define launch criteria for regulated environments including controls, audit artifacts, evaluation benchmarks, and risk thresholds
  • Build systems in sensitive data environments with strict access controls, data lineage tracking, and explainability requirements
  • Run evaluation loops measuring model and system quality against financial benchmarks and drive iterative improvements
  • Distill deployment learnings into reference architectures, playbooks, and tooling that scale across institutions

What they're looking for

  • Software engineering or ML engineering with 5+ years customer-facing experience
  • End-to-end ownership of complex AI/data systems in regulated or financial environments
  • Production-grade code in Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks
  • LLM/generative model deployment and evaluation experience
  • Financial workflows knowledge (trading, risk, compliance, underwriting, research)
  • Cross-functional communication with engineering, product, risk, and executive stakeholders
  • Systems thinking and incident-driven operational excellence
  • Ability to operate under ambiguity and high-stakes delivery pressure
