About this role
Join OpenAI's robotics team as a Manufacturing Engineer focused on motors and actuators. You'll lead the development of manufacturing processes, tooling, and prototype builds for custom electromechanical systems, taking projects from early design through scalable production while partnering across hardware, electrical, and quality teams.
What you'll do
- Develop and validate stator winding, assembly, and potting processes with consistent parameters and defect controls
- Design and deliver winding tools, fixtures, gauges, and equipment from CAD through fabrication and commissioning
- Plan and execute prototype builds of actuator designs, managing parts readiness, inspection, and delivery
- Troubleshoot manufacturing bottlenecks using measurements and controlled experiments to improve yield and quality
- Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and train technicians on repeatable procedures
- Collaborate with mechanical designers to improve manufacturability while preserving electrical and safety specifications
