Product Manufacturing & Quality Engineer
About this role
OpenAI seeks a Product Manufacturing & Quality Engineer to oversee manufacturing readiness, quality standards, and reliability of AI supercomputer hardware systems from development through mass production. You'll coordinate across design, operations, and external partners to ensure products meet performance and compliance requirements while managing complex supply chain and process validation.
What you'll do
- Own integrated manufacturing and quality readiness across component, system, and rack integration levels with clear gates and milestones
- Lead process flow readiness, tooling, fixtures, assembly operations, and production controls including work instruction review
- Translate product requirements into qualification plans, test specifications, and acceptance criteria with design and area SMEs
- Drive product and process qualification, reliability testing, and validation while maintaining traceable compliance evidence
- Manage supplier and line scorecards using yield, defect, and reliability data to identify trends and prioritize improvements
- Lead containment, root cause investigation, and corrective actions for production issues; coordinate on-site verification at supplier locations

- Structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5 Whys, fishbone analysis)
- Supplier and contract manufacturer management
- Process capability analysis and yield improvement
- Project management and cross-functional coordination
- Technical documentation and evidence-based decision making
