About this role

OpenAI's Healthcare team seeks a backend or full-stack engineer to build systems that integrate AI capabilities into clinical workflows and healthcare organizations. You'll design and own services, APIs, and data pipelines that connect healthcare systems while meeting strict security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

What you'll do

  • Design and build backend systems and APIs powering healthcare products that integrate with EHRs and enterprise data sources
  • Develop data pipelines and integrations that connect OpenAI capabilities with healthcare workflows while ensuring security and compliance
  • Own features end-to-end from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Design systems meeting requirements around privacy, security, permissions, compliance, and data governance in healthcare contexts
  • Partner with product, research, security, and healthcare organizations to translate complex workflows into scalable solutions
  • Improve reliability, performance, observability, and operational maturity of production healthcare systems

  • Backend or full-stack software engineering (5+ years production experience)
  • Backend services, APIs, and distributed systems architecture
  • Data systems and data pipeline design
  • Authentication, permissions, and identity management
  • System architecture and data modeling
  • Production system operations (observability, testing, incident response, migrations)
  • EHR integrations and healthcare data standards (preferred)
  • HIPAA compliance and regulated industry experience (preferred)
