Software Engineer, Host Assurance
About this role
OpenAI's Security team is seeking a Software Engineer to design and operate Host Assurance systems that establish trust in bare-metal and VM infrastructure. You'll build production services for machine identity, certificate management, secure bootstrap, and host attestation while ensuring secure deployment at global scale.
What you'll do
- Design and operate Host Assurance platform components for bare-metal and VM trust establishment before production use
- Build systems including machine identity, certificate issuance, HSM-backed trust services, host attestation, and baseline verification
- Validate hardware and firmware against vendor claims and detect configuration drift over time
- Own software components through implementation, testing, launch, and ongoing operation with defined readiness criteria
- Partner with provisioning and orchestration teams to eliminate insecure bootstrap patterns while maintaining deployment throughput
- Participate in on-call rotation and define observable, testable security properties for host platforms
