Software Engineer, Localization

About this role

Join OpenAI's Internationalization team as a Senior Software Engineer to build the localization and content delivery infrastructure that enables OpenAI products to serve users globally. You'll develop AI-powered translation pipelines, design systems for managing multilingual content, and create developer tools that make internationalization seamless across web and mobile platforms.

What you'll do

• Build and scale localization platforms combining AI-powered translation with human review workflows
• Design systems that reliably deliver localized content across web and mobile applications
• Create tools for linguists and localization teams to review and improve translations
• Develop internationalization libraries handling locale-specific formatting (dates, currencies, numbers, pluralization)
• Build developer tooling to simplify localization workflows for product teams
• Partner with product teams to ensure new features are internationally ready

• Backend or full-stack system design and development
• Java and React
• MySQL and cloud infrastructure (object storage, containerized services, Kubernetes)
• Open-source software and developer tooling
• AI systems integration with human workflows
• Knowledge of multilingual interfaces and right-to-left language support
• Multilingual proficiency (preferred)
• Platform and internal tools development
