About this role
OpenAI seeks a product-minded software engineer to build the plugin ecosystem platform powering ChatGPT and Codex extensions. You'll design APIs, SDKs, and infrastructure that enable developers to create and share plugins while improving how models invoke and interact with them.
What you'll do
- Design and ship APIs, SDKs, and backend services for plugin development and integration
- Build user-facing experiences for plugin discovery, installation, and usage
- Improve plugin creation, testing, publishing, and sharing workflows
- Collaborate with research to diagnose model-tool interactions and measure plugin quality improvements
- Enhance plugin reliability, error handling, and recovery across products
- Implement permissions, approvals, and admin controls for secure organizational adoption
