Software Engineer, Trust & Safety
About this role
OpenRouter is seeking a Software Engineer for their Trust & Safety team to build detection, enforcement, and review systems that prevent abuse, fraud, and illegal content on their AI routing platform. You'll design end-to-end systems spanning signup, payments, inference, and internal tooling while handling millions of daily requests and complex threat models that evolve rapidly.
What you'll do
- Build detection and enforcement systems across signup, payments, and usage to identify abuse and fraud early
- Own the technical enforcement pipeline from detection through human review to system-wide restrictions
- Develop internal investigation and enforcement tools including case queues, evidence summaries, and bulk review capabilities
- Implement content safety solutions on the inference path with illegal content detection and KYC integration
- Create analytics and monitoring systems to detect abuse spikes, investigate incidents, and measure false positives
- Collaborate with data scientists on ML model development for risk and abuse detection
