About this role

Redwood Materials seeks an Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical engineering foundation for grid-scale battery energy storage projects during the early phase, translating ambiguous inputs into buildable designs, interconnection strategies, and comprehensive scope packages that hand off to detailed design teams.

What you'll do

  • Lead electrical front-end scope for early-phase energy storage pursuits and coordinate across Business Development, Product, and EPC teams
  • Develop concept and preliminary electrical designs including site layouts, single line diagrams, and system architecture integration
  • Establish electrical Basis of Design covering AC/DC architecture, medium-voltage collection, protection, grounding, and auxiliary power
  • Perform screening-level power system studies such as load flow, short circuit analysis, and protective device coordination
  • Support utility interconnection strategy and deliver electrical feasibility studies confirming viability and equipment siting
  • Establish electrical code and standards compliance framework and deliver comprehensive electrical scope package to detailed design

What they're looking for

  • Grid-scale battery energy storage (BESS) electrical design and balance-of-plant equipment
  • AC/DC power conversion and medium/high-voltage systems
  • Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination)
  • Utility and grid operator interconnection requirements
  • Design tools: AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, ETAP or SKM
  • Electrical codes and standards: NEC 705/706, IEEE 1547, UL 9540/9540A/1973/1741, NFPA 855, IEC
  • Single line diagram and preliminary design development
  • Project coordination and communication across multi-disciplinary teams
