HIL Systems Engineer II
About this role
Join Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies to design and maintain Hardware-In-the-Loop test systems for embedded vehicle controllers. In this on-site Irvine role, you'll validate control systems, perform failure analysis, and collaborate with firmware and subsystem engineers to advance electric vehicle technology.
What you'll do
- Design and develop HIL test systems for embedded vehicle controllers using platforms like dSPACE, NI VeriStand, or OPAL-RT
- Setup, maintain, and document HIL infrastructure while conducting validation testing against design specifications
- Collaborate with subsystem and firmware engineers to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Lead root cause analysis of HIL hardware failures and document lessons learned
- Work with platform teams on product architecture development including actuator control and electrical safety simulation
- Propose and develop improvements to HIL infrastructure to increase test coverage

- Embedded control systems and vehicle subsystems knowledge
- Communication protocols (CAN, XCP, LIN, FlexRay, CAN-FD, CAN over Ethernet)
- Python scripting and Pytest automation
- Vehicle communication bus tools (CANalyzer, CANoe)
- Test equipment operation (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
- Electrical safety practices and high-voltage systems
- Issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla)
