SpaceX
Electrical Design Engineer – Raptor 3D Printers
About this role
Design and own electrical systems for next-generation Laser Powder Bed Fusion 3D printers that manufacture Raptor rocket engines. Drive the full lifecycle from requirements and circuit design through production deployment, ensuring reliability and manufacturability of critical additive manufacturing equipment.
What you'll do
- Design electrical hardware, PCBAs, and implement modifications to improve reliability and printer capabilities
- Create PCB fabrication documentation and manage electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Perform root cause investigations on off-nominal unit behavior and resolve production issues
- Design and execute hardware validation through benchtop and environmental testing
- Lead system trades, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, and hardware bring-up
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, automation, and controls engineers
What they're looking for
- Circuit design and PCB layout (Altium or Circuit Maker preferred)
- High-power electronics and power converter design
- Sensors, embedded microcontrollers, and FPGA development
- Digital communications (SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS422)
- Circuit simulation and formal analysis (de-rating, worst-case analysis)
- Test automation and data analysis (MATLAB or Python)
- EMI/EMC design and troubleshooting
