Manufacturing Automation Engineer, Chamber and Nozzle (Raptor)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a manufacturing automation engineer to design and deploy automated systems for producing Raptor engine combustion chambers and nozzles—components with extreme geometric complexity and reliability requirements. You'll develop robotic processes, implement real-time controls, build data pipelines for quality optimization, and partner across propulsion, materials, and production teams to scale high-volume rocket engine manufacturing.
What you'll do
- Design and deploy automated manufacturing systems including robotic process automation and smart factory initiatives for Raptor chambers and nozzles
- Implement process control and in-situ monitoring for specialized manufacturing techniques required for these complex components
- Build data pipelines capturing manufacturing telemetry for statistical process control, predictive analytics, and defect reduction
- Design fixtures and material handling solutions that maintain tight geometric tolerances throughout build and assembly
- Drive continuous improvement through Python scripting, PLC logic, and process modeling to reduce cycle time and scrap
- Collaborate with propulsion design, materials, and supply chain teams to convert designs into scalable, manufacturably-optimized processes
