Manufacturing Engineer, Chamber and Nozzle (Raptor)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and optimize CNC machining processes for the Raptor engine's combustion chambers and nozzles—components with extreme complexity, tight tolerances, and demanding thermal/pressure requirements. You'll own CAM programming, process control, fixture design, and data-driven optimization to enable high-volume, repeatable production of these critical propulsion systems.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize multi-axis CNC machining processes, tool paths, and CAM programs for complex Raptor chamber and nozzle geometries
- Implement closed-loop CNC process control with real-time monitoring of cutting forces, vibration, and tool wear to maintain tight tolerances
- Build data pipelines capturing CNC telemetry and deploy statistical process control and predictive analytics to minimize scrap
- Design custom fixtures and work-holding systems for precision machining of large, thin-walled components
- Manage CNC software infrastructure including post-processors, macros, simulation, and digital twin integration with version control
- Integrate in-process metrology and automated quality verification into CNC setups for adaptive machining
