Manufacturing Engineer - Supplier Development, Optics & Optomechanical Systems (Starlink)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Manufacturing Engineer for Supplier Development to build and scale the supply base for Starlink's free-space optical communication systems. You'll work with design and manufacturing teams to improve quality, cost, and delivery while managing supplier relationships and driving continuous improvement across optomechanical hardware.
What you'll do
- Improve quality, cost, delivery, and capacity metrics for mechanical hardware in Starlink satellite and ground station systems
- Collaborate with design, materials, and manufacturing engineers to understand design intent for components and assemblies
- Drive design for manufacturing feedback and scalable production designs with peer teams
- Assess supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems; strategically source parts aligned with supplier competencies
- Define supplier technical and quality requirements; implement and monitor PPAP with suppliers for rate production
- Conduct root cause analysis on supplier quality issues and establish improvement plans; identify new supplier capabilities
