About this role

SpaceX seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop critical structures, mechanisms, and fluid systems for Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. You will own hardware through its complete lifecycle—from design and analysis to launch and reuse—while collaborating with senior leadership on mission-critical systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and own primary/secondary structures, mechanisms, and fluid systems for Falcon launch vehicles
  • Perform hand calculations, FEA, and CAD modeling to ensure hardware meets requirements
  • Lead design reviews and hardware qualification testing
  • Interface with suppliers and customers as technical point of contact
  • Manage hardware delivery timelines from conception through launch and operational reuse

  • CAD software (NX/Teamcenter preferred)
  • Finite Element Analysis (NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, or similar)
  • Hand calculations and fundamental physics problem-solving
  • Hardware fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Multiphysics simulation and CFD
  • Scientific programming (Python, Matlab, Excel)
  • Technical communication and design review leadership
  • Project management and timeline ownership
