About this role
SpaceX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop mechanisms and structures for Crew Starship, including systems like solar deployment, landing legs, and lunar elevators. You'll own projects from concept through qualification and integration, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and external partners including NASA to deliver mission-critical hardware.
What you'll do
- Design, analyze, and oversee manufacturing of structures and mechanisms for Starship lunar and Mars missions
- Perform hand calculations and finite element analysis to develop and optimize designs
- Rapidly prototype and iterate on manufacturing processes through development testing
- Lead design reviews with internal teams, suppliers, and customers like NASA
- Conduct trade studies to balance cost, schedule, safety, and performance requirements
- Manage project delivery from early design through production, launch, and recovery
