About this role
SpaceX seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and optimize next-generation photovoltaic power systems for Starlink satellites. You'll own solar array components from cells to integrated assemblies, ensuring production efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness while collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.
What you'll do
- Design and analyze solar array components from photovoltaic cells to complete electro-mechanical assemblies
- Lead mechanical system design and tooling for solar array sub-assemblies with ownership of production outcomes
- Prepare technical design reviews and demonstrate extreme ownership of factory yield, uptime, and cost metrics
- Conduct FEA, hand calculations, and thermal/dynamic analysis to validate design capability
- Execute test procedures, verification plans, and process qualifications using design of experiments and statistical process control
- Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing partners on design-for-manufacturing changes to meet production rates
