Network Engineer, AI Infrastructure (Starshield)
About this role
SpaceX is hiring a Network Engineer for Starshield, a government-focused satellite and infrastructure program. You'll design, deploy, and optimize high-speed data center networks supporting critical national security missions, working with AI clusters at massive scale and collaborating across hardware, software, and network teams.
What you'll do
- Manage network infrastructure and deployments to classified data centers
- Design and validate high-speed copper and optical connectivity for AI clusters with 100k+ GPUs
- Translate ML workload communication patterns into interconnect topology and optical reconfigurability requirements
- Build automation tools for network device provisioning and deployments (ZTP, custom tools)
- Monitor network performance, improve reliability, and lead capacity planning and failure remediation
- Lead network integration, troubleshooting, and collaborate on system design improvements

- Layer-1 networking (transport, DWDM, optical fiber, circuit troubleshooting)
- Datacenter network design (Ethernet, IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN)
- GPU networking stacks (InfiniBand, NVLink, NVIDIA Blackwell/Rubin deployment)
- Hands-on hardware deployment (routers, switches, firewalls, modems)
- Network security implementation and monitoring
- Automation and scripting for network operations
- Fiber optics physical troubleshooting
- Enterprise and cloud-scale network deployment experience
