Site Reliability Engineer (High Performance Computing)
About this role
SpaceX seeks a Site Reliability Engineer to own and operate their high-performance computing platform—a shared infrastructure serving vehicle simulation, machine learning, and AI workloads across the company. You'll reduce toil through automation, build observability for operators and users, manage the complete infrastructure stack, and collaborate with systems engineers to keep world-class engineering teams productive.
What you'll do
- Participate in on-call rotation and lead sustainable incident response with blameless postmortems
- Manage node lifecycle using infrastructure-as-code: OS images, firmware, configuration management, and kernel/driver stacks
- Design and implement observability for cluster health, node status, storage, and job-level metrics
- Automate operational toil by writing code to reduce manual work on production systems
- Lead capacity planning across the company to forecast compute and storage needs
- Collaborate with HPC systems engineers and cross-functional teams to build maintainable, operable infrastructure

- Linux systems administration (2+ years production experience)
- Production infrastructure operations: monitoring, debugging, and repair
- Infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform)
- Monitoring and alerting platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios)
- Python or similar scripting languages for automation
- Container technologies (Docker, Podman, Singularity/Apptainer)
- Kubernetes administration for on-premise deployment
- Distributed storage systems (VAST or similar)
