About this role
SpaceX seeks a Tooling Engineer to oversee the manufacturing line for Starmind's orbital compute hardware, managing machining capabilities, design-for-manufacturability optimization, and precision part production for next-generation space-based AI systems.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain in-house machining capabilities to produce precision piece parts and internal tooling
- Perform design-for-manufacturability (DFM) analysis on parts and assemblies to optimize for production
- Collaborate with design engineering, production, and support teams to align manufacturing with requirements
- Troubleshoot production issues and coordinate between machinists, technicians, quality, and engineers
- Implement process controls and automation strategies to enable lights-out machining operations
- Procure, install, maintain, and calibrate machine shop equipment; drive cost optimization initiatives
