Stratolaunch
Avionics Mechanical Engineer
About this role
Stratolaunch seeks a mechanical engineer to design and develop avionics systems for hypersonic air-launched testbeds. You'll work cross-functionally to create electronic enclosures, perform thermal and structural analyses, manage manufacturing, and support flight testing in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
What you'll do
- Design electronic enclosures and avionics packaging with 3D CAD modeling
- Perform structural, thermal, and heat transfer analyses and hand calculations
- Generate and mature avionics system requirements with engineering teams
- Create production drawings and collaborate with machine shops on manufacturability
- Support environmental testing, failure analysis, and flight test qualification
- Optimize packaging processes to improve yield, reliability, and production metrics
What they're looking for
- Electronics and avionics packaging design
- 3D CAD (Siemens NX, Solidworks)
- Structural and thermal analysis (hand calcs and FEA)
- Metallic structures design and manufacturing
- Technical aerospace vendor management
- Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA)
- Risk management and critical path planning
- Configuration management systems (JIRA, GIT, JAMA)
