Stratolaunch
Payload Design and Build Engineer
About this role
Stratolaunch seeks a senior mechanical or structural engineer to lead payload integration design and build for hypersonic Talon-A test vehicles. You'll design mechanical interfaces, perform structural and thermal analysis, manage CAD models, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with cross-functional teams and customers.
What you'll do
- Design and analyze mechanical and avionics packaging for customer payloads on hypersonic vehicles
- Perform structural and thermal analysis of components, assemblies, and airframe modifications
- Create, organize, and manage 3D CAD models and master assemblies for payload integration
- Coordinate with multiple teams to define interface and integration requirements, resolving conflicts quickly
- Support fabrication, build, and integration of components onto vehicles with fabrication teams
- Lead technical customer reviews, mentor junior engineers, and provide proposal and contract support
What they're looking for
- 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks or NX) and assembly management
- Structural analysis methods (FEMAP, Ansys, hand calculations)
- High-temperature material properties and thermal analysis
- Configuration management (Jira) and requirements management (Jama, DOORS, Cameo)
- Technical communication and design team leadership
- MS Office and PDM systems
- System integration and avionics packaging
- Cross-functional project coordination
