Abuse Research Engineer
About this role
Stripe seeks an Abuse Research Engineer to proactively hunt advanced threats and analyze fraud patterns across its financial platform. You'll conduct hypothesis-driven investigations, apply Stripe's FT3 fraud taxonomy, and build automated testing simulations to identify vulnerabilities before they impact users. Working cross-functionally, you'll translate threat research into actionable controls and strategic recommendations.
What you'll do
- Execute proactive threat hunting operations and kill chain analysis across Stripe systems and external data sources
- Apply and enrich the FT3 taxonomy framework to standardize threat intelligence across kill chain phases
- Integrate and automate threat feeds from intelligence partners into engineering workflows
- Translate research findings into actionable threat advisories and control recommendations for cross-functional teams
- Build and deploy agentic automated testing frameworks to simulate adversary tactics and validate control effectiveness
- Generate regression scenarios to systematically eliminate product vulnerabilities

- Python and SQL with expertise in automation and large-scale data querying
- Threat intelligence, threat hunting, and technical incident response
- Log analysis, digital forensics, and cyber investigation methodologies
- Data analytics and anomaly detection in complex datasets
- Financial fraud understanding (ATO, card testing, credential stuffing)
- Databricks, Trino, PySpark, Pandas, or Scikit-Learn
