AI Engineer

About this role

Tessera Labs seeks an AI Engineer to build production-grade agentic systems for enterprise transformation. You'll own the infrastructure surrounding LLM agents—tools, context management, retrieval layers, guardrails, and observability—enabling them to safely execute complex changes across legacy enterprise systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and deploy production agents that understand enterprise landscapes, plan changes, execute across systems, and verify correctness
  • Build typed, permissioned tool interfaces allowing agents to act safely within authorized boundaries across enterprise platforms
  • Optimize agent performance via prompting, context strategies, tool-use patterns, and classical ML routing/ranking where appropriate
  • Construct retrieval layers over enterprise metadata with hybrid search, reranking, and grounding tailored to non-prose artifacts
  • Implement comprehensive evaluation, monitoring, and instrumentation to ensure auditability and catch failures before customers do
  • Diagnose production issues from execution traces and close gaps systemically rather than through one-off fixes

What they're looking for

  • LLM agents and agentic systems design
  • Production system architecture and reliability
  • Retrieval-augmented generation and semantic search
  • Python or similar backend language
  • Classical machine learning (routing, ranking, classification, anomaly detection)
  • Observability, instrumentation, and monitoring
  • Enterprise systems integration (SAP, Salesforce, Workday, Snowflake, etc.)
  • Authorization, audit trails, and governance patterns

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through how you'd design the context management layer for an agent running 40+ steps across unfamiliar enterprise systems—what gets included, compressed, or dropped?
  • Describe a time you diagnosed a production failure in a complex system. How did you move from symptoms to root cause?
