Quality Control Engineer, HD Mapping
About this role
Torc seeks a Quality Control Engineer to audit high-definition map datasets for autonomous trucks, ensuring accuracy and safety compliance. You'll review geospatial data from LiDAR and sensor sources, identify defects, refine QC processes, and collaborate with engineering teams to improve mapping quality at scale.
What you'll do
- Review and validate HD map geospatial data (lane geometry, boundaries, signage) against quality specifications and ground-truth sources
- Perform QC on map features derived from LiDAR point clouds, imagery, and vehicle sensor data
- Identify, document, and escalate map defects, prioritizing safety-critical issues to engineering teams
- Define and optimize QC metrics, sampling strategies, and audit workflows to measure map accuracy
- Partner with mapping vendors and internal teams to communicate quality standards and resolve issues
- Analyze recurring defect patterns and feed findings back to improve upstream map creation processes
