About this role

Tower Research Capital seeks an HPC Operations Engineer to manage day-to-day health of a rapidly growing research compute fleet of nearly 1,000 machines. This hands-on operations role handles user support, incident triage, fleet monitoring, and provisioning while working closely with HPC infrastructure engineers to identify automation and process improvements.

What you'll do

  • Provide first-line technical support to HPC users on scheduling, compute, storage, and access issues
  • Troubleshoot job failures, scheduler errors, and resource constraints, escalating when necessary
  • Monitor fleet health including queues, node status, storage, and service availability
  • Provision new machines and manage OS installations, configurations, and decommissions
  • Perform maintenance, patching, and configuration updates across the research cluster
  • Document solutions and develop runbooks to improve resolution speed for recurring issues

  • Linux administration (RHEL and Ubuntu)
  • Production systems troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • Batch job schedulers (Slurm, HTCondor, or LSF)
  • Bash or Python scripting
  • Technical user support and communication
  • Linux provisioning and network boot (PXE/kickstart)
  • HPC or large-scale compute environments
  • Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
