Tower Research Capital

Software Engineer, Machine Lifecycle

New York$150k–$250kmidAdded 2 days ago

About this role

Tower Research Capital seeks a Software Engineer to design and build an end-to-end machine lifecycle automation pipeline that takes physical servers from power-on through production readiness with zero manual intervention. The role applies GitOps principles to hardware infrastructure, treating provisioning, configuration, and validation as versioned code in CI/CD pipelines.

What you'll do

  • Design and build the complete machine lifecycle pipeline from network boot through OS installation, configuration, validation, and production handoff
  • Automate hardware bring-up via BMC, Redfish, and IPMI for firmware updates, BIOS settings, and inventory discovery
  • Implement network boot provisioning (PXE/UEFI HTTP) and unattended OS installation to eliminate manual machine setup
  • Write Python and Ansible code to configure machines into their final roles, replacing manual runbooks with reviewed, versioned automation
  • Apply GitOps and CI/CD practices to the fleet, with desired state in Git and automated drift detection and reconciliation
  • Build automated validation, health checks, and stress tests that machines must pass before entering production

What they're looking for

  • Python (automation tooling and services)
  • Ansible (playbooks and roles)
  • CI/CD principles and pipeline design
  • Linux system administration and boot process
  • GitOps and infrastructure-as-code mindset
  • Out-of-band management (BMC, Redfish, IPMI)
  • Network boot and provisioning (PXE, UEFI HTTP)
  • State machine design and system instrumentation
