About this role
Vast is seeking a Materials & Processes Engineer specializing in metallics to support the design and manufacturing of human-rated space stations. You'll provide expertise in metallic material selection, qualification, and manufacturing processes for spacecraft structures, propulsion systems, and flight hardware.
What you'll do
- Provide materials engineering expertise for metallic materials across spacecraft structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, and propulsion hardware
- Support material selection and qualification for aerospace metals including aluminum, titanium, stainless steels, and nickel-based alloys
- Develop and maintain material specifications, engineering standards, and acceptance criteria
- Guide manufacturing processes including machining, forging, welding, heat treatment, brazing, and additive manufacturing
- Execute material and process qualification test plans and develop mechanical property allowables
- Perform failure analysis and root cause investigations on metallic flight hardware; mentor junior engineers
