About this role
Vast seeks a System Safety Engineer to develop safety analysis and hazard mitigation strategies for next-generation commercial space stations. You'll partner with engineering teams to ensure human-rated spacecraft meet rigorous safety and compliance standards while supporting the development of Haven-1 and related space infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand system design and document hazards with mitigation controls
- Assess vehicle compliance with failure tolerance and safety requirements
- Identify design improvements that reduce risk to crew and property
- Present safety analysis findings in design reviews to internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct functional hazard analyses, crew survivability assessments, and range safety compliance reviews

- Compliance assessment against Range Safety 91-710, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, ARP-4761
- Functional hazard analysis and crew survivability evaluation
