About this role
Vast seeks a Test Engineer I in Mojave to develop and execute component and assembly testing for the Haven-1 space station, focusing on ECLSS, propulsion, and ground support systems. You'll design test stands, create technical documentation, mentor team members, and ensure compliance with aerospace standards while supporting the mission to establish permanent human presence in space.
What you'll do
- Design, prepare, and execute test campaigns for ECLSS, propulsion, and ground support components under the Components team's direction
- Create professional documentation including electrical, mechanical, and fluid schematics for test systems
- Mentor engineers and technicians while enforcing and improving test processes and best practices
- Conduct Test Readiness Reviews (TRR) and perform design analysis and project management for test setups
- Troubleshoot systems, identify root causes of failures, and develop creative solutions to optimize cost, schedule, and quality
- Collaborate across engineering groups to define requirements and implement testing solutions

- Environmental testing per SMC-S-016, GEVS, and MIL STD 810G standards
- Test plan and procedure development with design engineers
- Instrumentation system design and implementation
- DAQ software (NI, Beckhoff, Dewesoft) and hardware operation
- High-pressure gas and oxidizer systems operation
- P&ID creation and CAD (NX preferred)
- Root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex systems
- Project management and cross-functional collaboration
