About this role

Vercel seeks an experienced Engineering Team Lead to guide the Next.js open-source framework. This hands-on role balances direct technical contributions with lightweight team leadership, focusing on framework architecture, performance, and developer experience across rendering, caching, routing, and build systems.

What you'll do

  • Write production code, review pull requests, and debug complex issues in Next.js framework
  • Own and execute major technical initiatives from exploration through architecture and production rollout
  • Make architectural decisions on rendering, caching, routing, build systems, and developer tooling
  • Investigate performance regressions and production failures, translating findings into framework improvements
  • Coach and mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews on challenging problems
  • Partner with Product, Design, and infrastructure teams to ensure framework changes integrate across the platform
