Vulcan Elements

Manufacturing Data & MES Engineer

Research Triangle Park, NCmidAdded today

About this role

Lead the data and manufacturing execution systems strategy for a rare-earth magnet manufacturer scaling from pilot to a 1-million-square-foot facility. You'll embed with the MES implementation vendor, close data integration gaps, design a platform-neutral data architecture, and shepherd the system through go-live and production expansion while maintaining security compliance.

What you'll do

  • Embed with vendor during MES pilot implementation and own the system post-handover through go-live and stabilization
  • Close data integration gaps between batch systems, historians, and business systems with proper contextualization and mapping
  • Design and operate plant data architecture including entity models, interface catalogs, and vendor-independent contextualization database
  • Build and maintain REST/HTTP integrations between MES, SCADA, LIMS, and ERP with production-grade error handling and logging
  • Define ISA-95 object models and electronic batch record structure for magnet manufacturing workflows
  • Establish platform evaluation criteria and support proof-of-concept testing for SCADA/batch/historian/MES selection

What they're looking for

  • Manufacturing execution systems (MES) and SCADA architecture
  • Data integration and REST API design with error handling and idempotency
  • ISA-95 standards and batch record/material genealogy modeling
  • SQL and relational database design for manufacturing data
  • ETL and data pipeline development
  • Systems integration and vendor management
  • Process engineering and manufacturing operations knowledge
  • Python or similar backend programming language
