About this role
Waymo is seeking an MS/PhD Machine Learning intern to train and evaluate large transformer models on driving sequences using JAX/Flax on TPUs. You'll design rigorous offline and end-to-end evaluations, build production-quality code, and collaborate with multiple teams to improve the autonomous driving system.
What you'll do
- Train and fine-tune multi-task transformer models on driving-log sequences in JAX/Flax on TPUs
- Iterate on fine-tuning strategies, training data mixtures, and loss functions to improve evaluation quality
- Design and execute rigorous offline and end-to-end evaluations including PR-AUC and calibration quality metrics
- Build dataset and evaluation pipelines for hillclimbing A/B testing
- Develop production-quality code in a shared, high-traffic codebase
- Communicate results through design docs, team presentations, and final intern presentation
