2027 Summer Intern, MS/PhD, Software Engineer

About this role

Waymo seeks Master's or PhD students to intern as software engineers on autonomous driving technology, focusing on designing and validating C++ logic that governs how self-driving vehicles interact with traffic and the environment. You'll work on perception, decision-making, and safety-critical systems while collaborating with experienced teams on projects that directly impact the company's Level 4 autonomous vehicle platform.

What you'll do

• Design and implement C++ onboard logic for autonomous vehicle traffic control interactions
• Validate software changes using large-scale simulation suites to evaluate safety and rule compliance
• Write production-grade, well-tested code meeting rigorous code review and continuous integration standards
• Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers on robotics and perception challenges
• Ensure vehicle behavior is compliant, safe, smooth, and predictable to other road users
