1X is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop thermal management systems for NEO, a humanoid home robot. You'll design and optimize active and passive cooling solutions for the robot's hands, balancing thermal performance with packaging, manufacturability, and cost constraints while collaborating across hardware, electrical, and controls teams.

What you'll do

  • Design and optimize thermal management systems for robotic hands from concept through production
  • Conduct first-principles thermal analysis and simulations to evaluate design trade-offs and select components
  • Build, instrument, and test prototypes to validate thermal performance under representative operating conditions
  • Collaborate with CFD engineers to correlate simulation models with experimental data
  • Integrate thermal solutions within packaging, structural, electrical, and manufacturing constraints
  • Create engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, and change orders
