About this role
Adaptive Biotechnologies seeks an Equipment Engineer I in Seattle to manage and support a diverse fleet of laboratory and facility equipment while contributing to process improvements and automation development. This role combines hands-on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance documentation with opportunities to specialize in development or operational areas.
What you'll do
- Install and qualify standard lab equipment including pipettes, thermocyclers, centrifuges, and environmental monitoring systems
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and calibration for complex equipment like liquid handlers and sequencers
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and manage incidents with structured problem-solving approaches
- Support equipment lifecycle management, documentation, and compliance with quality standards
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives for laboratory and business processes
- Train end users on equipment operation and document standard operating procedures
What they're looking for
- Equipment installation and operational qualification (IOQ/IOQL)
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving with Lean Six Sigma or first principles approaches
- Documentation writing (SOPs, protocols, change control requests, risk assessments)
- Experience with automated liquid handling platforms (Hamilton, Tecan, Dynamic Devices, Formulatrix)
- Benchtop lab equipment operation and maintenance
- Metrics gathering and reporting
- Programming languages (VB, C#, Python, JavaScript) - preferred
- Molecular biology techniques (PCR, NGS) - preferred
