About this role

ALTEN Technology USA seeks an experienced Composite Repair Engineer to lead the full lifecycle of ground test equipment repairs, from damage assessment and design through execution oversight. This role combines technical expertise in advanced composites with project management, customer engagement, and field support, requiring 10+ years in composite manufacturing and aerospace/defense experience.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate composite damage on ground test equipment and design repairs to restore components to original specifications
  • Manage complete repair project lifecycle including requirements analysis, cost/schedule estimation, and technical quoting
  • Develop repair processes, work instructions, and material specifications in collaboration with production teams
  • Conduct on-site inspections, customer presentations, and technical discussions to scope damage conditions
  • Oversee repair execution both at company facilities and customer locations with up to 50% travel
  • Mentor junior designers and drive continuous improvement through quality and process optimization initiatives

  • Composite manufacturing processes and fiber-reinforced polymers (fiberglass, aramid, carbon prepreg, wet layup)
  • Epoxy resin systems and bonded structures design
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques including ultrasonic, eddy current, and X-ray
  • GD&T and mechanical design (machining, fasteners, welding, tooling design)
  • CAD software (Creo/Windchill preferred) and CAE experience
  • Project management, technical documentation, and cost analysis
  • Problem-solving and process improvement methodologies
  • Gas turbine and aerospace/defense industry knowledge
