ALTEN Technology USA
Mechanical Systems Engineer, Exterior Sensor Integration
About this role
Lead the mechanical integration of ADAS and autonomy sensors into vehicle exteriors, owning sensor mounting, field of view optimization, alignment tolerance strategies, and cleaning system architectures that ensure robust real-world performance across production variations.
What you'll do
- Lead mechanical integration of exterior-mounted ADAS sensors (cameras, radar, lidar, ultrasonic) across multiple vehicle locations
- Own field of view analysis, obstruction studies, aperture sizing, and sensor pointing angle definition in coordination with perception teams
- Define and release sensor brackets, housings, covers, and mounting interfaces balancing stiffness, mass, cost, and serviceability
- Drive sensor alignment strategy including tolerance stack-up, datum schemes, and end-of-line calibration feasibility
- Own exterior sensor cleaning architecture including nozzle design, fluid routing, pump selection, and heated lens strategies
- Manage DFMEA, DVP&R, boundary diagrams, and robustness validation through design and release milestones
What they're looking for
- ADAS and autonomy sensor integration at vehicle level
- GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis for precision-mounted components
- Camera, radar, lidar, and ultrasonic sensor operating principles
- CATIA V5, 3DEXPERIENCE, or Siemens NX CAD
- Injection molding, sheet metal, and die-cast design for manufacturability
- DFMEA and DVP&R development and execution
- Water management, sealing, and IP rating verification
- Supplier collaboration on design feasibility and cost targets
Benefits
- Mentorship and career growth opportunities
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Collaborative work environment on advanced automotive technology
- On-site presence in Long Beach, California
- Exposure to cutting-edge ADAS and autonomous vehicle development
