Mission Software Engineer
About this role
Join Anduril's Maritime team as a Mission Software Engineer to diagnose and fix real-world bugs in autonomous underwater/surface vehicles. You'll reproduce field issues, trace root causes across distributed systems, ship fixes in production code, and build the observability and runbook practices that scale the team's reliability.
What you'll do
- Diagnose field-reported anomalies by identifying which subsystem actually failed, not just where symptoms appeared
- Reproduce bugs using recorded sensor data, visualization tools, and metrics instead of guessing or re-running live
- Reconstruct system state at failure time using existing metrics dashboards and centralized logs
- Write and test fixes in Rust, C++, Python, Go, or other languages native to each subsystem, through CI and versioned rollout
- Determine whether issues are bugs, configuration errors, or deployment mismatches and fix at the appropriate layer
- Document root cause and solutions to identify systemic gaps and improve test coverage and on-call runbooks

- Debugging unfamiliar code under time pressure with incomplete information
- Proficiency in at least two of: Rust, modern C++, Python, Go
- Systems debugging: log/metric reconstruction, offline replay from recorded data
- Observability tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Loki/ELK)
- Linux and systems administration
- Clear technical writing and root cause analysis
- Hardware and sensor systems debugging
- CI/CD and versioned deployment pipelines (preferred)
