Multiphysics Engineer, High Speed Reacting Flow

Costa Mesa, California, United StatesFrom $171kmidAdded today

About this role

Anduril Industries seeks a Multiphysics Engineer to design and optimize air vehicle propulsion systems using CFD analysis of high-speed reacting flows and combustion. You'll drive thermal and structural analysis from hand calculations through 3D simulation, supporting rocket nozzle design and validating models against test data.

What you'll do

  • Conduct CFD analysis of internal flows with combustion using commercial codes like STAR-CCM+ or Fluent
  • Progress designs from 1D hand calculations through 3D CFD refinement and optimization
  • Predict heat loads, surface temperatures, and pressures for downstream thermal and structural teams
  • Model gas properties and chemistry for high-speed reacting flow conditions
  • Validate simulations against static fire and ground test data, iterating models for accuracy
  • Create documented, repeatable analysis workflows and present results at design reviews

What they're looking for

  • CFD (STAR-CCM+, Fluent, or equivalent)
  • Compressible flow and shock dynamics
  • Heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation)
  • Reacting flow and combustion modeling
  • Python or MATLAB programming
  • 1D analytical and hand-calculation methods
  • Meshing and numerical convergence techniques
  • Technical writing and presentation

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a CFD analysis you performed on a high-speed or reacting flow—what physics dominated and how did you validate results?
  • Describe your experience with compressible flow phenomena like shocks and choked flow; how have you modeled these in practice?
