Drone Stack - Software Engineer
About this role
Applied Intuition seeks a Robotic Software Engineer to design and integrate autonomous systems for defense and commercial drone platforms. You'll deploy autonomy algorithms across hardware and software domains, manage complex integrations with UAVs, and conduct SIL/HIL testing while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
What you'll do
- Integrate and deploy autonomy software onto embedded Linux platforms with sensor interfacing and data collection
- Support live flight testing of autonomy on Group 1-5 unmanned aerial vehicles
- Troubleshoot complex integration issues to ensure reliability and performance in production environments
- Conduct system-level setup, testing, and validation across software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop evaluations
- Collaborate with DoD experts and OEM vendors to integrate autonomy software onto third-party UAS hardware
- Develop service-oriented architecture software and inter-process messaging systems for autonomous systems
What they're looking for
- C++ programming (modern standards preferred)
- Pixhawk autopilot integration (ArduPilot/PX4)
- Communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet)
- Linux-based operating systems and Docker containerization
- Git version control and development tools (VS Code, GitLab)
- Real-time and edge computing systems
- Hardware-software integration and robotics systems
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (nice to have)
Benefits

Likely interview questions
- Walk us through a specific example where you integrated autonomy software with a Pixhawk autopilot (ArduPilot or PX4). What challenges did you encounter and how did you resolve them?
- Describe your experience with SIL, HIL, and live test environments. How do you approach debugging issues that only appear in one of these environments?
