Software Engineer - Identity and Authorization
About this role
Baseten is seeking a Software Engineer to found and lead the identity and authorization team, building fine-grained access control systems for enterprise AI customers. You'll design scalable, low-latency permission models and credential systems that support complex security requirements for mission-critical workloads.
What you'll do
- Lead identity and authorization projects from design through implementation, launch, and iteration
- Design authorization and credential models supporting current workflows while enabling safe platform evolution
- Partner with product, design, and customer teams to translate enterprise security requirements into technical solutions
- Establish engineering practices for quality, security, observability, and operational ownership
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship as the identity team grows

- Fine-grained authorization system design (Zanzibar, OpenFGA, SpiceDB, Cedar)
- Backend systems development and production operations
- Multi-tenant system architecture with high-performance authorization checks
- Full-stack development: application, infrastructure, and Kubernetes
- OAuth, OIDC, and SCIM protocol knowledge
- Python and Go
- End-to-end product ownership and technical leadership
