Forward Deployed Engineer
About this role
Cardless is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to own technical partner launches end-to-end, from contract to live card programs. You'll combine backend engineering expertise with product sense and customer-facing skills to integrate partners' apps with Cardless's financial product platform, while deciding what to build as bespoke solutions versus platform features.
What you'll do
- Own complete technical relationships for new partner launches, from scoping through production
- Design integrations and write API specs, guides, and sandbox tooling for partners to build against
- Develop product sense for partner apps and determine optimal placement of card application and servicing surfaces
- Decide between bespoke partner builds and platform features to accelerate future integrations
- Travel to partner sites, run workshops, and coordinate with risk, compliance, processor, and bank teams to unblock launches
- Debug partner integrations against Cardless systems and provide technical guidance to partner engineering teams

- Backend systems design and production shipping (6+ years)
- API design and developer experience (OpenAPI, SDKs, sandbox environments)
- Technical communication with both engineering and business stakeholders
- Systems debugging and end-to-end flow analysis
- Product judgment and feature prioritization
- Fintech, payments, or card issuing knowledge
- Solutions or deployed engineering experience
- Customer relationship management and technical partnership
