Clera
Founding Robotics Engineer
About this role
A founding robotics engineer role at a pre-seed company building low-cost, teleoperated humanoid robots for remote work in healthcare. You'll own end-to-end hardware and software design, from prototyping through fleet deployment, with significant equity and the chance to define the technical direction from day one.
What you'll do
- Design and build a low-cost teleoperated humanoid robot with self-charging and autonomous navigation for under $1,000 BOM
- Develop initial deployment targeting patient check-in in urgent care clinics and optimize human-robot interaction for patient preference
- Deploy and maintain a fleet of 50+ robots in clinical environments while tracking and exceeding 500+ hour MTBF targets
- Integrate hardware components (motors, sensors, actuators, compute) into reliable, cohesive systems
- Build embedded firmware and deploy edge AI models to enable real-time operator guidance and accelerated training
- Shape manufacturing and deployment strategy as the company scales
What they're looking for
- Mechatronics and robot system integration
- Embedded firmware and real-time software development
- Machine learning deployment on edge devices
- CAD design and 3D printing/rapid prototyping
- Design for manufacturing (cost optimization, tolerances, assembly)
- Fleet management and reliability engineering (MTBF tracking)
- Human-robot interaction design
- Full-stack robotics (hardware + software + AI)
Benefits
- Meaningful founding equity stake (~1%)
- Competitive salary $120,000–$140,000 annually
- Visa sponsorship available
- Opportunity to define technical direction of a physical product from inception
- On-site collaboration with a small, fast-moving founding team in New York
